Why I'm a 'Tidy As You Go' Maker | The Fernery
Share
I'm a 'tidy as you go' maker. I think I always have been – at the beginning because I had to be, and now because I genuinely couldn't work any other way.
Where it all started
Working at the dining table with my babies in bed each evening meant everything had to be put away ready for the morning. When I took over the whole dining space a couple of years later, and had littlies who were into everything, I still had to tidy everything out of reach before they came home from preschool. My workspace was always on show too, as our house was open plan.
What tidying taught me
It taught me that by keeping things tidy I can be so much more efficient. When I moved into my studio five years ago I became the biggest organisation geek, seeking out perfect storage for everything I use!
Respecting your tools
I've never gone in for the whole 'messy artist' vibe. I think that when you've invested serious money in kit, equipment and materials, you should be respectful and look after them. Make a place for everything and keep the tools of your trade clean, tidy and tucked back in that place when you're done – and you won't waste time looking for something you just had your hands on!
