Make your own Star Bookband - digital download
My bookbands have been a flagship product at The Fernery for almost ten years, and after countless requests, I've finally put together a comprehensive guide so that you can make your own at home!
This tutorial is suitable for hand or machine sewing.
If you'd like to buy the Glitter Fabric and Elastic for my bookbands, I sell it all here!
The guide consists of clear and easy to follow, step by step instructions, including colour photos of every step, so you can enjoy some quality craft time creating endless beautiful Star Bookbands for yourself and friends.
This tutorial is suitable for everyone, from beginners right up to experienced sewists. You only need to be able to execute a basic backstitch if you're sewing by hand. You'll need a basic sewing kit including some small pieces of fabric and felt, a needle and thread, and a small piece of bondaweb to complete this make.
This tutorial will teach you some wonderful applique skills, including how to trace and transfer your design onto fabric, how to get a lovely neat finish on raw edged fabric, and how to construct your finished product so that it's a lovely quality item and not a floppy mess! It will not teach you to do freemotion applique like you may have seen me do, but if you can already use a sewing machine you can absolutely use this tutorial to make your decorations.
When you've had a play and made your first Star, the amount you can make is endless - you'll be creating these for Christmas gifts in no time! They're especially lovely to attach to a book and give as a gift.
Once you purchase, you will be emailed a link so that you can download the templates and tutorial. The PDF will open in your web browser, and you'll need to save it to your device. You will need to either be able to print the tempate page, or trace the pieces on an iPad screen if you prefer - there will be no hard copy of the pattern sent to you, and this is not a kit so you will not receive materials in the post.
Please note that all digital products are non-refundable.
This tutorial allows you to download the guide twice. This is done so that you can put it on two separate devices if needed. Please be sure to save your download somewhere you will be able to locate it again later, as I will not be able to forward it to you again due to each download link being personalised to the email address it was originally sent to.

Great content, very clear instructions
I loved making this, I loved the whole ethos of making time to make something nice, I’d ordered a book band for my mamma for Christmas and then bought the digital download and had ordered some book band elastic from Lisa too - I think it worked out lovely (2 Xmas presents made)! Xx
Clearly written with photos attached making it very easy to follow. I like how on the first page the items required are listed. I’ve been sewing for a while but I appreciate how it is written and it also means an inexperienced person could follow the instructions and achieve a great result.
